They were the parents of Milo, Resor, Hilles, Leslie Garnet (1906-1964 CA), Virginia, and a son who died in infancy. Sioux Rapids Bulletin Board - Thu, Jul 24, 1941 - Horace Resor Cowan was born at Blue Earth, MN April 5th, 1873 and passed away July 19, 1941 at Sioux Rapids, Iowa. at an early age he moved with his parents to Memphis, Missouri where he obtained his schooling, When but a young man he became interested in telegraphy and after some training in the profession at Kohoka, MO, he started on a career which he followed consistently until the present time. He was first employed by the Chicago and North Western railroad as an operator in 1894 and came to Sioux Rapids in that capacity in 1899. Since then except for a short time from 1907 to 1910 when he was employed at Laurens, Iowa he has been in charge of the Chicago and North Western depot in Sioux Rapids receiving his permanent appointment as agent here in 1910. On June 21, 1899 he was united in marriage to Harriett C Hawley and to that union were born six sons and one daughter. Mrs Cowan passed away in July 1939, a son Milo in 1932, and one son died in infancy. Mr Cowan served faithfully on the local Board of Education for the past 20 years. He had resigned just the evening before his last illness. He was always a kind and patient father and husband. He leaves to mourn his passing his surviving children four sons: Resor of Spencer, Iowa; Hilles of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Leslie of Twin Falls, Idaho; Rex of Canfield, Ohio; one daughter, Virginia Holleson of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; and 6 grandchildren.
