However, there was no mention about where and when. His tombstone states he died in 1943. There was a military training flight that disappeared without a trace in the vicinity of the Bermuda Triangle in December 1945, Flight 19, which is 2 years after Howard's date of death. Therefore, his disappearance is not part of the mystery surrounding the Bermuda Triangle. A lot of mysteries surround this area of the Atlantic, Flight 19 being one of them, but many of the mysteries may have other reasons for their disappearance -- pilot/navigator error, compass malfunction, cargo overload for capacity of the ship, running out of fuel, and other reasons. .......... The following provided by Find A Grave contributor, Kolibri Forensics: The information we have is: "Vicinity of Key West, FL Strike: Yes BUNO: 33229 Cause: Pilot took off from field at NAAF Boca Chica, Florida at 1250 Queen time. Base radio received "out" report at 1310 Queen. Flight was scheduled from bombing-training in gunnery area located in an area bearing 270 deg thru 360 deg True from Marquesas Keys. Flight was scheduled for return to NAAF Boca Chica, Florida at 1430 Queen. Plane failed to return. Exhaustive search for three days conducted with negative results" An "out" report was what was called when the crew was entering the training area. NAAF Boca Chica is today called Naval Air Station Key West. "Queen" is a reference to the local time when the events happened being 4 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time.
