Fort Benton Matron Passed Away in Great Falls Funeral services for Mrs. Louise G. Hanford, wife of J. Arthur Hanford of this city, who passed away Wednesday morning in Great Falls after a lingering illness, were held Saturday afternoon from the Benton Funeral home. Fort Benton Matron Passed Away in Great Falls Funeral services for Mrs. Louise G. Hanford, wife of J. Arthur Hanford of this city, who passed away Wednesday morning in Great Falls after a lingering illness, were held Saturday afternoon from the Benton Funeral home. Friends from the Fort Benton area as well as from many neighboring communities and other parts of the state, filled the chapel. Interment was in the family plot in Riverside cemetery. Louise Elizabeth Gwinn was born in Lillian, Nebraska, on Oct. 3, 1886, eldest daughter of David Howard and Susan Bates Gwinn. She spent her childhood in Nebraska and Pennsylvania, coming to Idaho and later to Washington states. She attended Cheney Normal school and taught in Washington and in southern Idaho where she homesteaded. On Jan. 28, 1914, Louise Gwinn married James Arthur Hanford at Garfield, Wash. In 1917 they moved to Chouteau county, farming in Shonkin and Highwood communities and, with the exception of two years, have resided in Montana. Since 1935 the family has lived in Fort Benton, Mr. and Mrs. Hanford spending some of the winters in the south. They returned in June of this year from Florida and other southern points. Surviving Mrs. Hanford are the husband; one son, State Representative Norris E. Hanford, Fort Benton; four daughters, Mrs. J. Burton Long, Mrs. Clifford M. Dyrland and Mrs. Francis W. Robinson, all of Highwood, and Mrs. James E. Trott, Fort Benton; eleven grandchildren; one brother, John H. Gwinn, of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Miss Marian Gwinn, of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Paul B. Porter, of Aurora, Neb.
