Read More	Cloud County Cemetery Book, Volume 4, page 134: name spelled Aiken Glasco Sun, May 22, 1941, page 4: Howard Ellsworth Aikin, son of William Aikin and Sarah Shepherd Aikin, was born Dec. 17, 1861 in Mercer County, Pa. One of a family of seven children he lived in the parental home until he was 21 years old. With his brother, Henry B. Aikin, he went to Sanford, Orange County, Florida, where he was one of the pioneers in the orange industry, in clearing land and planting orange groves. Both he and his brother took up homesteads and started groves of their own which they cared for until the destroying freeze of 1886. Upon returning to Pa. he was engaged as manager of a fruit ranch. Later he spent 14 years in the grocery business as an employee and later owner of a grocery store. He came to Kansas in 1911. He was married to Lizzie Eberhardt Cossel in 1924. They established their home 6 miles northeast of Glasco where he lived until he departed this life, May 19, 1941, age 79 years, 5 months and 2 days. He joined the Methodist church at Fredonia, Pa., when 15 years of age and united with the Glasco Methodist church by letter April 15, 1940. He is survived by his wife, one step-daughter, Mrs. Leslie Teasley of Clinton, Oklahoma, one step-son, Harry Cossel of Clay Center, Kansas and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Aikin was a great lover of his home and received all who visited him in his home cordially and graciously. The friendships he made were made for life. He was very fond of reading and having traveled a great deal he was a very interesting conversationalist. His dealings with his fellowmen were always fair and honorable. His 79 years have been full ones. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 21, 1941 at 10:30 a.m. in the Lott and Stine Funeral Home, Rev. R.R. Braddick of the Glasco Methodist Church officiating. Interment was made in the Glasco Cemetery.
