He was born January 7, 1902, on the Crow homestead at Pearl Hill, the son of the late Edward and Dora May Vaughan Brandt. He attended Pearl High School and the Spokane Modern Auto and Tractor School. Mr. Brandt married Grace Mabel Jackson, who was a neighbor on Pearl Hill, in 1925 at Wenatchee. He was a farmer and rancher on Pearl Hill, raising wheat and cattle on the family's original homestead. He belonged to the Odd Fellows and the Grange, each for more than 50 years, and held numerous offices in each. He was an active Democrat in Douglas County and was a past president of the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife belonged to the Denim and Gingham Square Dance Club for many years. Mr. Brandt had played the fiddle since he was a young boy and loved music and dancing. An avid historian, Mr. Brandt was able to remember virtually everyone who had ever lived in the area, pertinent dates, property lines and markings. His first wife died in December of 1981 and he married Eva Mae Adams on June 25, 1983, at Bridgeport. Survivors include his wife, Eva Mae, Bridgeport; two sons, Carl Edward, Bridgeport, and Cleo Merle, Moses Lake; one stepson, Don Richardson, Okanogan; one daughter, Colleen Frances Anderson, Spokane; one step-daughter, Betty Hurlbert, Seattle; one sister, Louella Marie Brandt Dowell, Bridgeport; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; seven step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild. He was also was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 4 at 11 am in the Barnes Chapel, Brewster with Rev. James Lane officiating. Bar Grange and Bridgeport Odd Fellows participated. Private interment in the Bridgeport Cemetery. Arrangements by Barnes Chapel, Brewster.
