Mr. and Mrs. Crandall observed their 75th wedding anniversary Sept. Mr. Crandall was born in Bremen, Ill. on June 21, 1975. Survivors are his wife, Clara M.; a daughter, Mrs. Lorena M. Van Camp of Vancouver; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a brother, M.L. Crandall of Lincoln and one sister, Mrs. C. J. Merriam of Los Angeles. Mrs. Crandall is a sister of Mrs. Wid Turner of Creighton. Funeral services were held on Dec. 6 by the Washington Lodge No. 4, F. & A. I remarked to them that the story which I could write would be a laugh. WHY, because I am not educated, my language would be terrible, my spelling poor, my composition out of line, my vocabulary very limited. They thought this would make it better, my own language. So I made this promise, so guess I will proceed. On June 21st, 1957, I reached the age of 82 years, but am in good health. I consider myself to be of sound mind and memory and knowing the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life, I have a job to do, so, why not do it. This story will have its beginning, October 1884, the date we landed in Knox County, Nebraska. I shall try and tell about our lives, what we did, how we lived and incidents that occurred as they come to my memory. Will carry this on from year to year, telling about myself and my family. ...Howard Crandall...Story of My Life. A copy of Howard's 100 page book is owned by the Winnetoon Historical Society, Winnetoon, Knox County, NE. Howard's father, AW Crandall kept a daily diary of early life in Winnetoon, Nebraska from 1914 to a few days before his death in 1939. The Diaries are available on microfilm at the Nebraska State Historical Society. Two books, each with four years of the diaries, are available at the Winnetoon Historical Society.
