G. Baker of Center township, passed away this morning at the hospital in Mt. Pleasant, where he had been ill for over a week. He was 20 years of age and was born and raised in Jefferson county. Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, Merle and Verle. Late this afternoon, funeral arrangements have not been completed. -------------- Transcription of obituary as shown on this memorial, to show the full name wording as published: Fairfield Daily Ledger-Journal Friday March 9, 1923 Pg. 2 Col. 2 OBITUARY LORELLE BAKER Hubert Lorelle Baker, son of Guy C. (sic) and Elta M. Baker (sic), was born in Black Hawk township, Jefferson county, Iowa, November 12, 1902, and departed this life March 6, 1923, being at the time of his death aged twenty years, three months and twenty-four days (sic. note that the Jefferson county death record listed the age as being 20 years, three months, and 14 days). When a small child he was converted and baptized, and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, at Brookville, Iowa. He attended the common schools of Jefferson county and was graduated from the Packwood High school in 1919. In the fall of 1919 he entered the Fairfield High school from which he was graduated in 1920 (sic. not certain why he was graduated from two high schools in succeding years). The deceased was of a quiet disposition, an earnest student, and was held in high esteem by his associates and acquaintances. He leaves to mourn his loss his father and mother, two brothers Merle and Verle, besides a host of relatives and friends. The funeral services were held from the Chrisian church in Fairfield Thursday, March 8, at 11:00 a.m., conducted by Dr. C. L. Tennant of the First Methodist church and interment was made in Evergreen cemetery. The pallbearers were Gould-Burn Heald, Roy Cowen, Bruce Thomas, Edward Samuelson, Harlan (sic. can't read the last name correctly), and Virgil Lisk, six of his boy friends from Packwood.
