McMahan Last rites will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home for Hugh G. McMAHAN, 82, lifetime Rochester resident, who long was prominent in civic, governmental and political affairs of the city and county. Mr. McMahan died Thursday at 12:45 p.m. in Woodlawn hospital, where he had been a patient since Feb. 3. He resided at 404 West Ninth street. The Rev. Hugh STEWART will officiate at rites, assisted by the Rochester Masonic lodge, and burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. Mr. McMahan had a long and varied career in public and business life. He was both principal and school teacher during his early years, served two terms as Fulton county auditor, was postmaster of the Rochester postoffice, and was county chairman of the Democratic party, in the affairs of which he was actively intrested all his life. In 1930, he purchased the Arlington hotel in this city and operated the business until 1942. The building was sold two years later. An active member of the United Presbyterian church here, he served as a Sunday School teacher and was an elder at the time of his death. Mr. McMahan also belonged to the Rochester Masonic lodge. One of a family of 12 children, he was born six miles southwest of the city in the Antioch community on Aug. 11, 1882, the son of John B. and Rebecca GOSS McMAHAN. His first marriage was April 12, 1904, to Edith HOOVER, who died Feb. 22, 1934. His second marriage was Jan. 10, 1936 to Gertrude DAVIS FITZELL, who died Oct. 30, 1958. On Nov. 24, 1963, he was married to Frances ELLIOTT HENDRICKSON, who survives. Also surviving are one son, H. Emerson [McMAHAN], Rensselaer; one daughter, Mrs. Will J. (Eve) DELANEY, Michigan City; two stepchildren, Mrs. C. R. WINELAND, Monticello, and George HENDRICKSON, Kewanna; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren. One son, Dean [McMAHAN], died in 1931. One sister, Miss Jessie McMAHAN, Pacific Palisades, Cal., also survives. Brothers and sisters preceding in death were Otto, William, Patrick, John, James and Thomas McMAHAN, and Mrs. Omer (Lora) SMITH, Mrs. John (Daisy) SCHAFF, Mrs. Mel (Josie) HAY and Mrs. Del (Sally) BLACK.
