She was born January 21, 1921, to Lonnie and Jenny Sloan at Olin, NC. Inez moved with family to Vashti, NC. She finished school at Hiddenite, NC. She worked at Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, NC, where she met and married John Givens on June 7, 1941. In 1952, she moved with her family to Bridgeport, WA. John and Inez were married for 65 years. Inez dedicated her life to her family. She took care of her mother after her father died in an auto accident. Inez's only child, Johnny, at the age of 18, was paralyzed in an auto accident. She took care of him in her home for 28 years. After Johnny passed, John Sr. became ill and she took care of him. Inez loved her garden and was known for her great tomatoes. After John passed, she and her best friend, Chris Benson, enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed going to the Eagles for dinner and to see friends. She was preceded in death by one son, Johnny; husband, John; brothers, Gilbert, Ben, Dwight, Raymond and Olen Sloan; and one sister, Pansey (Sloan) Wilson. Graveside Service will be on Friday, June 17, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bridgeport Cemetery. Lunch will be provided at the Eagles after the Service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barnes Chapel, Brewster.
