Read More	DEATH SUMMONS PIONEER UNION COUNTY WOMAN Rites Are Held Last Monday Afternoon For Mrs. E. O. Carlson Mrs. E. O. Carlson, an early day resident of Union County, S. D., died at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Albin Carlson, northwest of Akron, Saturday morning, November 2, 1940, after a several weeks' illness of a complication of ailments, at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 1 day. Sofia Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Anderson, was born January 1 1861, in Kronoborgs Lan, Varmland, Sweden. With her brother, Sven, she left Sweden for America July 4, 1882, and arrived in Sioux City, Iowa the 28th of that month, living there until she located in Union County, S. D., where she was united in marriage with E. O. Carlson. They farmed northwest of Akron until Mr. Carlson's death in 1923, since when she made a home with her son, Albin Carlson, and wife, who tenderly cared for her in her declining years. Possessed of a cheerful and happy nature, kindly and sympathetic, she endeared herself to all, and a wide circle of friends mourn her taking away from the community where she had lived so long and useful a life. Mrs. Carlson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Albin Carlson, of Union County; two step-daughters, Mrs. Christine Hultgren, of Beresford, S. D., and Mts. Wm. Kapfer, of Akron; four brothers, Andrew Anderson, John Anderson and Sven Peterson, of Sioux City and Nels Anderson, of Boston, Mass.; one sister, Mrs. Emma Benoit, of Lynwood, Calif., and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Monday, November 4, at the home and at 2 p.m. in the Union Creek Lutheran Church, of which she was a faithful member. Services were conducted by Rev. Arthur Edstrom and Rev. J. H. Larson. Interment was in the Union Creek cemetery, beside her husband. Relatives and friends from a distance in attendance at the funeral were: Andrew Anderson and John Anderson, her brothers; Mrs. Howard Hammerstrom, Mrs. John Wulf, Miss Leah Peterson, Mrs. Albert Asplund, Mrs. A. J. Johnson, Mrs. Selma Erickson and Mrs. Swanson, all of Sioux City.
