Jim Novotny officiating. Burial was at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in St. Edward. Iola L. Mahoney, daughter of Ivan and Ethel (Yetter) Stephens, was born Nov. 14, 1918, at Fullerton. She attended rural Nance County Schools and graduated from Fullerton High School with the class of 1936. On April 27, 1940, Iola was united in marriage to Arnold "Bud" Mahoney at the St. Edward Catholic Church Parsonage in St. Edward. The couple lived and farmed in the St. Edward area all their married life. After they retired from farming, Iola worked at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward for several years. Following Bud's death, Iola moved into town in 1997 and entered Cloverlodge Care Center in December 2007. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church. Iola is survived by four sons: Jim and wife Sue of Genoa, Pat and partner Cyndi of Genoa, Mike and wife Janet of St. Edward, Rick of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Linda Werts and husband Jerry of Humboldt, Connie Eddy and husband John of Burwell; 24 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Miller and Fern Smith, of St. Edward; brother Earl Stephens and wife, Kathy, all of St. Edward; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud; her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Eileen Mahoney; infant granddaughter, Jordan Leigh Eddy; sister, Roberta Cahill; and one infant brother. A very loving woman, Iola's motherly ways touched many people over the course of her life. Stepping into her house was entering a loving home whose kitchen always bustled with the best home-cooked goodness Iola could offer, particularly her renowned cinnamon rolls. Ever patient, Iola always had room for one more; both in her home and in her heart and thus will forever remain steadfast in ours.
