Description	:	Ion Francis Hobart, son of Henry and Harriet Hobart, was born at Hillsboro, Illinois on August 11, 1845, and died at his home in Paton, Iowa on Oct. 31, 1914. He reached age 69y 2m 20d. Read More	Ion Francis Hobart, son of Henry and Harriet Hobart, was born at Hillsboro, Illinois on August 11, 1845, and died at his home in Paton, Iowa on Oct. 31, 1914. He reached age 69y 2m 20d. While yet a child, his parents moved to Port Byron, Ill, where the subject of this sketch grew to manhood and entered into business with his uncle. He married Eliza Pratt on January 11, 1876, in Rapid City, Illinois. They had four children, three boys and one girl. Their daughter, Juanita, died in childhood in Illinois. After remaining in business for a number of years in Illinois, in 1882, they moved to Greene County on a farm of eighty acres of land three miles southwest of Paton. They lived there three years, and during that time, sickness again entered their home, and one son, Walter T. died. In 1885, he desired to locate where he could work at his trade (that of a tinner) more successfully. He sold the farm and moved into Paton. After coming to Paton, death entered the family circle for the third time, and Roy C. was taken from the fond parents, leaving but one child, Racine, now of Walker, Minn., to be the child of their declining years. This son, with his family, arrived from Minnesota, but a short time before the father closed his eyes in death on Oct. 31, 1914. In all his business relations with his fellowmen, Mr. Hobart sought to do conscientiously and faithfully, whatever was entrusted to him. When about seven years of age, he had a severe attack of scarlet fever, which left him with an affliction in his head from which he never recovered, and while giving him much annoyance during the most of his life, was especially painful since his last sickness began in April of the present year. During his last sickness, he has had the kind care of his faithful companion and of neighbors who ministered to his wants. Mr. Hobart was a man who had made the subject of secular history much of a study and loved to converse upon it. Not only did he love to talk upon the history of nations as nations, but when approached in a kindly manner, loved to talk on the word of God, and his Bible bears many marks upon its sacred pages. During his last sickness he often expressed a desire to be at rest. He was a kind and indulgent husband and father to his family. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, one son, three grandchildren, two sisters in Illinois and many other relatives and friends. May He who alone can comfort, comfort the bereaved ones in this time of their deep sorrow. The funeral services were held at the residence on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and were in charge of Rev. McMican of the Presbyterian church. Interment was in the Paton Cemetery beside the children, Walter and Roy, who had died many years ago. Those present at the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Watkins of Fort Dodge, Mrs. A. F. Allen and Mrs. Bartlett of Callender.
