Mrs. Chapman died Wednesday, March 5, 2002, at an Elko, Nev., retirement community. She was born Nov. 28, 1905, in Adrian, Mo., the daughter of Walton Henry and Edna Earl (Home) Bysom. Mrs. Chapman moved to Lawrence in 1925 and worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. During World War II, she transferred to the Southwestern Bell branch in Borger, Tex. A daughter, Dorothy Galloway, died earlier. Burns Funeral Home, Elko, Nev., is handling arrangements. ∼Iona M. Chapman passed away at the Highland Manor at the age of 96. She was born to Walton and Edna Home Bysom. Iona married George Chapman . Of this union they had two children, George "Hank" Chapman and Dorthay Chapman. Her daughter preceded her in death and she raised her daughter's seven children. Iona worked for Bell Telephone from 1927 to 1975. She was a lifelong member of the Communications Workers of America. Iona is survived by her brother Clyde Bysom of Lawrence, KS; son Hank of Barcelona, Spain; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
