Her veil being of fingertip length was trimmed with lace. She carried a bouquet of calla lilies and white carnations. She wore a gold bracelet which belonged to the groom's mother. The bride chose as her attendants her sister, Martha Menke and Josephine Reining, who is on (sic) intimate friend. Rose Marie Ostdiek and Mureen Frances Menke, cousins of the bride, dressed in lovely white dresses, were train carriers while Virgil Brockman, nephew of the bride, carried the ring on a white satin pillow. Marion Wolfe and Louie Wolfe were attendants to the groom. Miss Menke wore a floor length dress of yellow taffeta, and wore a wreath of yellow flowers attached to a shoulder length veil. She carried a colonial bouquet of carnations. Miss Reining was attired in a blue taffeta flood (sic) length dress and wore a wreath of blue flowers attached to a colonial length veil. She carried a colonial bouquet of pink carnations. Following the ceremony a dinner for about 85 relatives was served at the home of the bride's parents. In the evening the newlyweds entertained their many relatives and friends at a dance in the Pariah Hall. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Menke, having spent her entire life in the St. Stephens community. She is a popular member of the younger set of that Parish. The groom, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolf Lipovsky is a prosperous farmer of the Deweese vicinity. The happy young people will make their home on a farm three miles north of Deweese, and take with them the best wishes and congratulations of their host of friends. May 2 was also the 34th wedding anniversary of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Menke. ====================== The Nuckolls County Locomotive-Gazette, Thursday, September 25, 2014; pg. 6 Ione M. Lipovsky was born June 29, 1924 to H.B. & Katherine (Knoop) Menke. She passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska at age 90. She married James Lipovsky on May 2, 1945 at St. Stephens Catholic Church near Lawrence. They lived on a farm in Clay County near Fairfield. They built a home in Fairfield and moved there after retirement. Ione was a full-time homemaker and held leadership roles on Fairfield Legion Auxiliary, DDCW, Altar Society, Women's Extension Club, Hastings China Belles and was a 4-H leader for many years. Jim & Ione enjoyed traveling during the years preceding his death. Ione enjoyed making kolaches, canning, China painting and spending time with family & friends. Ione remained in Fairfield after Jim died until August 2006 when she moved to College View Assisted Living and was residing there until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James on April 15, 1994; 6 brothers; 1 sister, and an infant son. Left to mourn Ione's passing are her children, Katherine & husband Tom Herbek, Hastings, Marie & husband Craig Kissinger, Glenvil, Barbara Lipovsky, Grand Island, David & wife Nancy Lipovsky, Fairfield; brother Walter Menke, Blue Hill; sister Martha Faimon, Lawrence; brother and sister-in-law, Edgar & Mabel Schmidt, Hastings; 18 grandchildren and spouses; 54 great grandchildren; and a host of friends. Rosary was held Monday, September 22, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial following at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial was at Fairfield Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family to be designated at a later date or St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.
