Read More	"Johnson County Courier" Thursday, June 15, 1950 pg. 1 col. 1 DEATH TAKES IRA FRANCIS OF COLORADO Former Sterling Resident is Brought Here for Burial Ira Ernest Francis was born on October 16, 1881 at Manchester, Ohio and died on June 7, 1950 at Jaroso, Colorado, at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 21 days. His health had been poor for the past four years, steadily getting worse, and on May 2 he became bedfast, growing weaker each day. He entered the Alamosa Hospital one week before his death. All during this long siege of suffering he remained a kind and loving husband and father. Mr. Francis was the only son of Nelson B. Francis and Mary Kate Kress Francis. He grew to manhood on a farm north of Sterling, and received his education in the Sterling high school. He graduated in 1899. In the fall he entered the Des Moines College of Pharmacy, graduating in 1903. He followed this profession in Lexington, Nebraska, and Bertrand, Nebraska, until 1909 when he moved his family to Blanca, Colo., where he was employed by the Trinichera Water Co., and he also went into the farming business. In 1917 he again moved his family to Jaroso, Colo., where he was engaged in the same work until his health failed and he had to give up work completely. Mr. Francis was united in marriage to Miss Goldie Genevieve Turner on Febr. 10, 1904 at Sterling, Nebr., by Rev. DeMotte. Four children were born to this union. They are Harry T., Long Beach, Calif., Ira N., Jaroso, Colo., Mrs. Alvin Weber, Sterling, Nebr., and Mrs. Kenneth Clark, Eloy, Arizona. Surviving besides his wife and children are six grandchildren, and on half-sister, Mrs. Harry Reutter of Sterling, Nebr. Mr. Francis was active in any civic work which helped to make his town a better place in which to live. He served on the school board for twenty years. He was a member of the San Acacio Masonic Lodge No. 155. Funeral services were held in Mesita on Friday, June 9 at 2:00p.m. Officiating was the Rev. Donald Groaters, Methodist minister. Music was furnished by Mrs. F. E. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Joy Barker, Joan Barker, and Frank Barker. Pallbearers were from Masonic Lodge No. 155 and concluding services were by Masonic Lodge No. 155. The body was then taken to the Zink funeral home in Sterling, Nebr., on June 11 at 2:00 p.m. the Methodist minister, Rev. Keith Shepherd conducted services. "Out of the Ivory Place," was sung by Mrs. Lloyd Wilson. Pall bearers were from Masonic Lodge No. 70. Concluding services at the Sterling cemetery were by Masonic Lodge No. 70. Deep Sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones in their time of sorrow.
