Francis was born at Manchester, Ohio, June 21, 1858, where he grew to manhood and was married to Mary Catherine Kress, September 23rd, 1880. One son, Ira E. was born to this union. Francis was born at Manchester, Ohio, June 21, 1858, where he grew to manhood and was married to Mary Catherine Kress, September 23rd, 1880. One son, Ira E. was born to this union. Mrs. Francis went to her reward April 13, 1904. He was united in marriage with Julia E. Lang May 31st 1905. Mr. Francis came to Sterling Nebr. in 1886 and has since then resided on the farm north of town, which place was developed into one of the best farms in this community. His motto was: "Never do things by halves," and this he proved in his daily life, placing his supreme interest in the home and the farm. His many friends are a living testimony of his stalwartness and effort to be a good friend and neighbor. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen, in which society he was ever willing to do his part but in the later years, his chief desire was the glory of his home and all its interests. He answered the hasty summons Saturday morning, May 18, 1929 having attained the age of 70 years 10 months and nine days. He leaves the widow, one son Ira E. Francis of Jarosa, Colorado and four grand children, a step daughter, Mrs. May B. Reutter of Sterling and two grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters. George B. Francis, Stillwater, Okla. Wm S. Francis, Sacramento, Calif. Andrew J. Francis, Hoyt, Kan. Dyas L. Holton, Kan. Mrs. Antonette Ives, Watonka, Okla., Mrs. Laura Belle Kneeland, Bisbee Arizona, Mrs. Margaret C. Atkins, Lincoln, Nebraska. A sister and two brothers preceded him; Myrtle Mae Varner, Adams, Nebr., John L. Francis, Sterling, Neb. Harvey Y. Francis, Adams. Nebr. These relatives from a distance attended the funeral: Andres F. Francis; Dyas L. Francis; Mrs. Margaret Atkins; Ira E. Francis; Mrs. Mack Pence; Mrs. Lydia Kress; Mrs. C.N. Reeves; Miss Doris Francis and Mrs. Dora Francis. He was the oldest living of a family of 11 children and has ever filled a most commanding place in the family as to wise counsel and general helpfulness. His long residence in this section in which time he has been an important factor in the development not only of the material resources, but he has also woven into his life a large circle of friends, which will miss a real friend and neighbor, who was ever ready for any service that he might be able to render. May the Heavenly Father console the disconsolate widow, the son and daughter and the large group of relatives many of whom were not able to be present at these obsequies. Only a moment of dark, A dream of the fleeting night, and then the beautiful break of day And the quiet peace of the Light; And you found yourself where you longed to stand, In the sweet repose of the fatherland" The funeral took place from the home Tuesday, Rev. Chas P. Lang of the Methodist Episcopal church officiating; interment in the Sterling cemetery. CARD OF THANKS It is with grateful appeciation that we extend our thanks to the friends and neighbors who were so kind and helpful during the last rites for our beloved husband and father who was taken from us so suddenly.
