Ira Joseph Alford, 62, resident of this community many years, died Tuesday, March 26, 1946 at 5 A.M., at his home northwest of Villisca, Iowa, following a prolonged illness. Ira J. Alford was born on August 26, 1883 in Princeville, Peoria County, Illinois to Charles Alford and Celia Young. He married three times, first to Myrtle C. Copelin on February 10, 1909 in Villisca, Montgomery County, Iowa and to them one child was born, Lee. He married a second time to Martha C. Enarson on December 9, 1917 in Villisca, Montgomery County, Iowa. The third time he married Esme V. Anderson on October 8, 1941. The body was brought to the Sutphen funeral home to await the funeral service which will be held there, Friday at 2 P.M., conducted by the Rev. E. M. Buehler, assisted by the Rev. F. W. Thompson. Interment will be in the Villisca Cemetery. Information found in The Villisca Review, Thursday, March 28, 1946. HOLD LAST RITES FOR IRA J. ALFORD Funeral services for Ira Alford, resident of this community many years were Friday at 2 p.m. at the Sutphen Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. E. M. Bueller, assisted by the Rev. P. W. Thompson. Mr. Alford died Tuesday morning, March 26, at his home northwest of Villisca. The singing at the funeral was by Mrs. Icle Fisher and Harold Todd accompanied by Mrs. Frances Wheeler. Those in charge of the flowers wee Mrs. Carrie Fisher and Miss Sylvia Enarson. The pall bearers were Arthur and Osmer Selley, Delaie Lindell, Willis Gourley, Dewey Eblin, and Louis Enarson, and interment was in the Villisca Cemetery. Ira J. Alford, son of Charles and Cecelia Alford, was born August 26, 1883 in Princeville, Illinois. He came to Iowa in his early manhood and lived here ever since that time. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Esme Anderson Alford, one son, Lee E, a daughter-in-law, and one granddaughter, Judy Lee of Corning, also two sisters, Mrs. Roy Hammond and Mrs. H. B Herberger of Peoria, Illinois. His parents and two sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Villisca Review, April 4, 1946, page 1
