Miller was born to Roy Hill Miller and Ruby Severns Miller on April 11, 1926, at Chelsea township, Nebraska and passed away April 6, 1994, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 24 days. He was one of seven children in the family. Irvin attended rural school district No. 30 through the eighth grade and then graduated from Geneva high School with the class of 1944. After graduation, he entered the Navy on October 3,1944, during World War II and was honorably discharged on July 15, 1946. Irvin moved back to Geneva, spending his lifetime in sales and accounting. Irvin was married to Charlene Cherrol Rath of Sutton on October 7, 1951, and to them four children were born; Sherie, Debra and twins David and Diane. Irvin was a member of the United Brethren Church and the United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the VFW Post No. 7102 in Geneva. Irvin’s most precious moments were spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and other family members. He loved spending time outdoors, whether it was yard work, gardening or tending his roses. His family will cherish the many items he made for them out of wood, whether it be picture frames, furniture, or other mementos. Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, Roy H. and Ruby Miller and a brother, Clair Miller. He is survived by his wife, Charlene; a son, David; three daughters, Sherie Buck, Debra Miller and Diane (Bill) Thornton; a brother Charles Miller; four sisters, Marie Andrews, hazel (Bob) Ewalt, Suzann (Lynn) Koozer and Joann (Bill) Jackson; brother-in-law, Bud Rath; seven grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Memorial services were conducted from the Geneva United Methodist Church on Friday, April 8, with the Rev. Stanley rider officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied Delwin V. Myers, who sang, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.” Honorary pallbearers were Robert Andrews, Tom Koehn, Jamie Jackson, Daniel Jackson, Doug Koozer, Rick Rath, Todd Rath, Michael Rath and Judy Ousey.
