Thomas 1 CA Press Democrat 18 Mar 1905 Pioneer Crosses The Great Divide Isaiah Thomas Passes Away At His Home In Green Valley Yesterday Leaves Life Partner of Fifty-Eight Years and Ten Children to Mourn His Loss Lived in County Over Half a Century "Death called another sturdy pioneer yesterday morning in the person of Isaiah Thomas of Green Valley. The end came peacefully at his home on the fine farm on which he had resided since 1858. Few men were better known or respected in the section in which he lived. Death came after a lingering illness as the result of the encroachments of old age. Mr. Thomas was a native of Ohio and was eighty-one years of age. He was the father of thirteen children, and his wife and ten children survive him. Fifty-eight years ago he was married to Miss B. J. Martin. He crossed the plains to California In 1854 and in 1858 took up his residence in Green Valley. Mr. Thomas took considerable interest in public and political life, and he was a familiar figure at many county conventions. He took great pleasure in agricultural pursuits and in his dealing with his fellowmen he was always found upright and honorable. The deceased’s surviving children are Zach Thomas, Green Valley; Samuel Thomas, Red Bluff; Mrs. John Davis, Forestville; Mrs. M. Rambo, Green Valley; Alfred R. Thomas, Green Valley; J. H. Thomas, Red Bluff; Mrs. F. F. Williamson, Sebastopol; Henry Thomas, Green Valley; Isaac Thomas, Forestville; Mrs. William Churchman of Tonopah, Nevada, Mrs. Elsie Thomas of Santa Rosa is a daughter-in-law of the deceased. He also leaves twenty-five grand children and three great grand children. The funeral will occur on Sunday afternoon."
