Mrs. Gant was a daughter of John and Sarah Hinder and was born in Marengo April 27, 1861. Later she moved with her parents to a farm south of Victor. On Dec. 30, 1880, she was married to John W. Gant. Following their marriage they lived on farms near Marengo and Victor and also at Searsboro. Mr. Gant died Aug. 10, 1919. In 1929 Mrs. Gant had the misfortune to break her hip. She made her home with her children from that time until April, 1935, when she returned to her home in Marengo. Mrs. Gant was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. She was the mother of nine children, eight of whom survive, Wallace of Ladora, Walter of Brooklyn, Mrs. Ethel Matthews of Bedford, Mrs. Grade Helms, Everett and Floyd Gant of Des Moines, Leo of Montrose, Colo., and Mrs. Iva Vaughn of Houston, Texas. Also surviving are one brother, Orville Hinder of Denver, Colo.; four sisters, Mrs. Sadie Baldwin of Perry, Mrs. Christine Logan of Hillsdale, Mich., Mrs. Edna Fry and Mrs. Sydonia Haines of Des Moines; 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
