Read More	Source: The Victor Record 12/25/1924 Mrs. Sarah Jenkins Hinder, one of the pioneer settlers of Iowa county died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. C. Frey, in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday night, Dec. 20. She was one of a family of twelve children, and grew to womanhood in Ohio, then with her parents moved by wagon to Iowa City, where she attended the State University and taught school until her mother passed away a few years later. In March, 1860 she was united in marriage to John G. Hinder. They moved to Marengo and lived about 3 years then moved to a farm 3 1/2 miles east of Victor. Mrs. Hinder came to Iowa County with her husband, John Hinder, almost 60 years ago. They formerly resided in Johnson county. Mr. Hinder was a tanner by trade and operated a tannery in Marengo, also driving a stage for a time. They settled on the homestead four miles SE of Victor where they reared a family of 10 children. The husband died 47 years ago and the care of the family and the operation of the farm fell to the widow. She continued to live on the farm and made it a success. When the children were grown and starting out for themselves she retired from the farm, and for the last few years has made her home with her daughter in Des Moines. Besides her husband, one son and three daughters preceded her in death, Birdella, Felicia Mohr, Mable Myers and Otto. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Iva H. Gant, Marengo; Mrs. C. C. Frey, Des Moines, Mrs. G. B. Hanes, Des Moines, Mrs. Sadie Baldwin, Perry, Mrs. Christine Logan, Hillsdale, Mich.; Orville Hinder of Greeley, Colo., besides a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Hinder was a good mother, a woman of deep religious convictions, and a pioneer to whom the community owes much. Because of an affliction to her hearing she could not avail herself of the ministrations of the church, but her sympathies and aid were ever extended wherever she could be of assistance. The body was brought to Victor Wednesday for interment in the I.O.O.F. cemetery beside her husband. Services at the grave were conducted by Rev. C. E. Coggenshall.
