He came to America when 14 years of age, making his home in Wayne Co., Ohio, when he grew to manhood. He was converted in his youth, accepted Christ as his Savior, uniting with the Amish Mennonite Church and remained a faithful member until death. In 1881 he was united in holy matrimony with Mary Roth. This union was blest with 5 daughters and 2 sons. One daughter (Emma) preceded him in death.
