This information had a note that the marriage record can now be found digitized on Ancestry. Jacob died on Friday, January 9, 1880. ----------- Update a/o Jan. 7, 2019: Jacob Comegys married Sara/Sarah Hicks Comegys on August 15, 1825 in Clark (sic. a/k/a Clarke) county, Ohio, per marriage record information provided on Dec. 22, 2018 by Erick Perry. This information had a note that the marriage record can now be found digitized on Ancestry. This marriage date appears to be more credible than a 1831 date of marriage provided by other researchers many years ago. The marriage record when digitally transcribed by Ancestry appears to show the maiden name "Heck" as noted by the minister, but that may be a transcription error - the image itself appears to show the name as Hick(s). The record was written in cursive, so those transcriptions are sometimes not interpreted quite as literal as they could be. Sara/Sarah died in March 1866, and thought to have died and likely buried in or around Peoria, Illinois. Note: As of September 1, 2014, she did not have a legitimate F/A/G memorial "Perhaps as more cemetery listings are updated in that area, she will be found and included." Update: it appears that another contributor, Debra, has used cemetery listings in Peoria, Illinois and believes that "Sarah" is buried in Springdale cemetery there and a/o July 1, 2017 has linked her to Jacob Comegys with a spouse relationship link. Comegys Cornelius Milton Comegys Joseph Ellis Comegys David Franklin Comegys Daniel Randal/Randall Comegys ----------- Fairfield Ledger Wednesday January 14, 1880 Pg. 3 Col. 8 Another Old Citizen Gone. It will be a painful surprise to many in this vicinity to learn of the death of Mr. Jacob Comegys, which occurred at the Mt. Pleasant insane* hospital Friday night last. Mr. Comegys was an old resident of this county, where he had reared a family, and spent many a happy day. Although he had lived the allotted three score and ten, and had been a cripple for several years, he could not remain idle, and his energetic and industrious habits might serve as a fitting example to many a younger man. For some time his mind had been affected, and it was thought hospital treatment might benefit him. He was brought home a short time ago, but afterwards returned. His remains were brought home Saturday night and the funeral took place Monday. * the term "insane" in the 1800's did/does not necessarily have the same meaning as we would interpret it in modern times. Sometimes a family member was unable to tend to their personal needs or had some memory loss so were placed in a hospital situation.
