Al died at home on his farm. The Greeley Citizen, Thursday, March 12, 1936, pg 1 DEATH TO A HORACE MAN Al Jeffres, a Highly Respected Pioneer, Gone. Al Jeffres, for more than a half century a resident of the Horace vicinity, died at 6:45 oíclock Thursday morning. Death was due to pneumonia. Mr. Jeffres, always active, was watching his sons, Lewis and Dick, sawing wood about two weeks ago. He suddenly became chilled and his sons took him to Dickís home. A week ago last Friday pneumonia developed and his condition gradually became worse. Mr. Jeffres was born at Salina, On December 19, 1857, being a little more than 78 years old at the time of his death. When a young man he moved to Randolph, Ia, where he remained for a few years. Fifty-four years ago he came to Horace and homesteaded a tract of land. Two years later he moved to the farm he since had owned. It is located a quarter of a mile south of Horace and a little east. The deceased was married in Grand Island to Miss Minnie Benson, who died several years ago. To this union were born eight children. The surviving children are Lewis, Ole, Mrs. Marion Welsh, Lynn and Allen(sic). Bessie(sic), Lorin(sic) and Alice are dead. All the surviving children reside in or near Horac.(sic) Mrs. Fred Beck of Scotia is a granddaughter of the deceased. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 oíclock at the Baptist church in Horace. Rev. Walter Gratham conducted the services. Burial was in the Scotia cemetery. The pallbearers were Henry Karre, Mose Clement, Will Sautter, Carl D. Jensen, Roy Whiting and Jacob Jensen. Mr. Jeffres was a kindly neighbor and an upright citizen. He was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
