Read More	James Allen Ward June 1,1909-Sept 17,2003 James Allen Ward was born June 01 1909 in Olympia, Washington. He was on of Twelve children born to Byrd and Maude Melton Ward. Allen passed away at age 94 years, 3 months, and 16 days on September 17, 2003 at Cherry County Hospital in Valentine. Allen attended Valentine High School & graduated with the class of 1925. During the dirty 30's, Allen worked as deputy Sheriff with Sheriff Otho Kime. He started Ward Plumbing & Heating in 1930, with the help of Pop Hoover. Allen married May Sokol on September 28, 1940 in Winner, South Dakota. They started the Rainbow Cafe, which was in the south part of Young's original building. Allen served his country in the United States Army, and was honorably discharged on January 25, 1944. He then came back to Valentine and continued operating his business. Allen stayed involved in the business until the last two years of his life, when failing health no longer allowed him to run errands and get the mail. Allen was honored as the oldest Lennox dealer in the mid-west. Allen was known for his word and honesty. He always said what he believed, if you liked it or not. "The truth is the truth," he would say. Allen was always willing to help people whenever there was a need. He was a member of the Masons, Shrine, VFW and the Presbyterian Church. He served on the Valentine School Board, the City Council, and helped with many other community activities. When Allen was young he enjoyed hunting. In later years, he always called himself "Allen The Old Man Ward," but he was still able to enjoy his family and many friends. He especially enjoyed his grandson, Chandler Allen Ward and loved to call him Skeeters. His hugs and kisses were such a joy to great grandpa. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Robert. He is survived by wife, Mae, sons, James Barrett of Buffalo, New York, Charles A. & William W. (Pam) of Valentine. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and one great grandson. A memorial service was held at 10:30 am Saturday, September 20th at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine. Rev. David Householter officiated at the 10:30 am service, internment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery. Obit for James Allen Ward. Suki Davey 47883435 -------------------------
