Description	:	Mae T. Sokol Ward, age 87, and lifelong resident of Cherry County died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Pine View Good Samaritan Center in Valentine. Mae was born May 3, 1921, at the family home north of Crookston. She attended school in Crookston and after graduating attended Nursing School in Alliance, Nebraska. Sokol Ward, age 87, and lifelong resident of Cherry County died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Pine View Good Samaritan Center in Valentine. Mae was born May 3, 1921, at the family home north of Crookston. She attended school in Crookston and after graduating attended Nursing School in Alliance, Nebraska. Mae was a nurse for many years and continued to help older people with their health needs even after she retired. Mae married James Allen Ward on September 28, 1940, in Winner, South Dakota. They started the Rainbow Cafe, which was in the south part of Young's original building. They also owned and operated Ward Plumbing and Heating. Mae was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Valentine. Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Arta and Tony Sokol, husband James Allen who died September 17, 2003, son Robert A, Ward, daughter-in-law Mary Ward, brothers, Curtis Sokol, Shannon Sokol, and sister, Naomi Sybrant. She is survived by sons, Charles Ward (Phyllis Bride), William (Pam) Ward and step-son James, grandchildren, Michele (Ward) Connie, Jeff, James, Thomas and Andrew and great-grandchildren, Chandler Allen, Marybelle, Julie Ann and Allen John. A memorial service was held Monday, March 23, 2009, at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine. Pastor Timothy Oleksy officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Memorials may be made to PIN (People in Need) and can be left at Ward Plumbing or Heart City Lock and Key. Sandoz Chepel of the Pines was honored to assist the family with funeral arrangements. Her maiden name is actually Sedlacek - she was adopted and raised by Anton Sokol (as were her siblings when their dad, Frank James Sedlacek died in 1925)
