Graham, a pioneer resident of Carroll county and a man intimately associated with the development and growth of both city and county, passed away at his home in this city yesterday after a long illness. He was past eighty-two years of age at the time of his death which was due to infirmities incident to his advanced age. Mr. Graham was born in Scotland in November, 1834, and came with his parents to America in 1846, locating first in New York city. He was the youngest of nine children and while living in New York learned the printer's trade, which he followed for several years. Later the family removed to Canada, and he followed them after some little time, and met and married Miss Jane Lloyd, a native of England. In 1874 they returned to the States and settled on a 440 acre farm in Pleasant Valley township, where Mrs. Graham died in 1877. Mr. Graham moved into Carroll in 1894 and engaged in the grain and live stock business the next year. Through square dealing and industry he accumulated a competence and due respect of his friends and neighbors. About ten years ago he retired, and has not been actively engaged in business since that time, though he has built several modern homes for rental purposes during the past few years, and has been a consistent booster for Carroll at all times. In the early days of his residence here he was a member of the board of supervisors. The surviving children are Robert, of Coleridge, Nebraska; Mrs. Jennie McKenzie, of Gagetown, Michigan; and Arthur, Mrs. William Bedford, Mrs. Ida Daugherty, Miss Adelaide, Miss Euphemia and Miss Mary, all of Carroll. The funeral will be held from the home Saturday at two o'clock p.m., and will be in charge of Rev. Parker, pastor of the Glidden Presbyterian church. Mr. Graham was raised an adherent of the Quarker faith, as was Rev. Parker's father, and for this reason he expressed a desire during his last illness that Rev. Parker conduct the funeral services.
