Read More	The Sunnyside Sun, October 24, 1979: Jim Hamilton Jim Hamilton, 88, Des Moines, prominent Sunnyside businessman for many years, died Saturday, Oct. 20 in University Hospital in Seattle. He was born in Goldendale. In March, 1925, he moved to Sunnyside where he was district manager for Pacific Power and Light Company. He retired in 1961. He had made his home in Des Moines for the past five years. Survivors include his wife Kathleen Hamilton of Des Moines; a daughter, Genevieve Amundson, Seattle, one brother, Orville Hamilton, Goldendale; one sister, Anna Crooks of Goldendale; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Hamilton At Retirement; Service Pins Given J.C. Hamilton observed his retirement as Pacific Power & Light district manager here Friday evening when he and Mrs. Hamilton attended a dinner in their honor sponsored by company employees at the Planters Hotel. In Sunnyside for the occasion was Paul B. McKee, board chairman of PP&L, accompanied by George T. Bragg, vice president, H.W. Millay, secretary and Homer Beale, Oregon division manager, from Portland. The Hamiltons received a portable television set as a retirement gift and McKee presented Hamilton a bronze-plated lineman's hat and gave Mrs. Hamilton a bouquet of red roses. Hamilton in turn presented company service awards to six employees from Sunnyside and Grandview. Wayne Thompson, lineman-agent at Grandview received a 35-year award, while Dale Bailey, engineer at Sunnyside and Francis Mills, salesman at Grandview, both received 25-year awards. Others included Charles Langford, line crew foreman at Sunnyside, 20 years; Wilbur Burr, groundman at Sunnyside, 15 years; and Ernest Warren, meter reader at Sunnyside, 10 years. Hamilton's retirement concluded a 44 year career in the electric utility business. He came to Sunnyside as district manager in 1925. His successor is J.S. Livingston, a native of Mabton, who came here after serving as company district manager at Tillamook, Ore. ********************************************************** The Sunnyside Sun, November 24, 1960: Jim Hamilton, District Mgr. Joins Staff Early J.C. Hamilton, district manager for Pacific Power & Light and community builder in Sunnyside for 35 years, joined the company only seven years after its founding. Starting as a bookkeeper in the Goldendale PP&L office in 1917, Hamilton was promoted to office manager at Dayton two years later. He also served as office manager at Pendleton for four years, before being appointed Sunnyside district manager in 1925. Hamilton recalls Sunnyside in 1925 had a population of less than 2200 and the entire district served from the office here had fewer than 2000 electrical users. A small substation of 600 kilowatt capacity, then located behind the present office of the Milk Products company, supplied the entire electrical needs of the city and the surrounding area. Today the company serves 7500 electrical users from its Sunnyside headquarters and the substation has been moved to North Avenue and Sixth Street and its capacity increased more than 30 times to 21,875 kilowatt rating. In addition to his years of service to Pacific Power & Light company, Hamilton has put in a busy 35 years as a community builder in Sunnyside and the Lower Valley. His early community service included six consecutive terms as chairman of Ford Day, forerunner of today's Ben Snipes Day. He also served several terms as president and board member of Chamber of Commerce and has been an officer and board member of Rotary as well as of Snipes Mountain Irrigation District. Hamilton is one of the organizers of the Sunnyside Memorial Hospital, served as president and executive committee member, and continues to be a member of the board of directors. He also is one of the organizers of the Sunnyside Pioneer Association of which he is vice president and is a board member and president of the Sunnyside Housing Authority with which he has worked since its inception. ********************************************************** The Sunnyside Times, September 24, 1936: Mr. and Mrs. J.C.
