Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Mr. Hamilton came to Klickitat county in 1878 from Yamhill county, Oregon. For many years he operated a sheep ranch in Eastern Klickitat county. From 1893 to 1928, when he retired, Mr. Hamilton owned and managed one of the county's larger sheep ranches. During the early years of the sheep business in this county he served as sheep inspector and traveled throughout the county. Hamilton Butte, located in the Mt. Adams district, was named for the pioneer Goldendale range operator. Mr. Hamilton was born in Little Rock, Ark., in 1855. When only one year old he crossed the plains in a covered wagon with his parents. The family settled in California where Mr. Hamilton's father became one of the first pony express riders in the Sacramento district. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hamilton celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary in Goldendale on November 2, 1939. The elderly couple would have observed their sixty-second anniversary this autumn. Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton were married at the old Chamberlain home east of Goldendale on Nov. 2, 1879 by Elder James A. Bullack of Spring Creek. Besides the widow, America, four daughters, Mrs. Minnie Watson and Mrs. C.E. Crooks, of Goldendale, Mrs. Tena Jobe, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Emma Applegate, of Albany, Ore.; and three sons, Orville, of Goldendale, James, of Sunnyside, and Walter, of Waitsburg, Wash., survive. ************************************************* The Goldendale Sentinel, August 8, 1935: Children Attend Hamilton Family Reunion The Alex Hamilton family reunion was held last Sunday, August 4, at the Orville Hamilton place south of Goldendale, with six children, 19 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren present. Only the J.C. Hamilton family of Sunnyside were absent. The oldest member at the gathering was Alex Hamilton, 81, and the youngest, little Willetta Anne Hardin, three weeks. The new member was Henry Culver, who was recently married to Miss Maravene Crooks, one of the grandchildren. The list of those who were present is as follows: Mrs. Minnie Watson and sons Woodrow and Orville; Tina Jobe and daughter Ethel Mae, of Phoenix, Arizona; Mrs. C.E. Crooks and husband and daughter Harriet; Orville Hamilton and family; W.T. Hamilton and family and Crede Watson and family, Waitsburg; Russell Hardin and family; Elden Beeks, of Vancouver; Mrs. Emma Appelgate and son James, of Albany, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Davidson of son of The Dalles; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Culver and Clifford Beeks and family. Invited guests were Mr. and Mrs. Mike Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Bishop, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mrs. Georgia Cable. A provision was made to hold the reunion in the should it Grange Hall should it rain, but the weather was so pleasant that it was decided to hold it on the front lawn at the Hamilton (illegible). A picnic lunch was served (illegible) which the youngsters amused themselves playing games. Group pictures were taken of the individual families, then of the children and grandchildren and lastly of the (illegible) gathering. *********************************************** The Goldendale Sentinel, August 8, 1935: Alex Hamilton and daughter, Mrs. Minnie Watson, returned today from Waitsburg, where they have been visiting with relatives. They accompanied Mrs. Tina Jobe and daughter Ethel Mae, who have been visiting there from Phoenix, Arizona, Mrs. Emma Appelgate and son James, of Albany and Mr. and Mrs. Bishop, also of Phoenix.
