Description	:	James Daniel Dunken, the son of John and Mary Susan Dunken, was born at Nelson, Nebr., Dec. 12, 1874, and passed away in the Veteran's Hospital, Lincoln, Dec. 4, 1947 at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 22 days. He grew to manhood in the Nelson community, and on Oct. 3rd, 1900 at Red Cloud, Nebr., was united in marriage to Miss Amanda O. Reeve of Nelson. Read More	James Daniel Dunken, the son of John and Mary Susan Dunken, was born at Nelson, Nebr., Dec. 12, 1874, and passed away in the Veteran's Hospital, Lincoln, Dec. 4, 1947 at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 22 days. He grew to manhood in the Nelson community, and on Oct. 3rd, 1900 at Red Cloud, Nebr., was united in marriage to Miss Amanda O. Reeve of Nelson. To this union were born six children: Mrs. Lois Thorp, Delbert Dunken and Burton Dunken of Corbett, Oregon, Mrs. Gladys Gibson, Watsonville, Cal., Mrs. Evelyn Smith, Denver, Colo., Mrs. Mabel Shipley of Oak. On May 10, 1898 he enlisted at Lincoln and later served with Co. H, 1st Nebr. Reg. in the Phillipine Insurrection. He received his discharge Aug. 3, 1899. After his discharge he farmed with his father until his marriage in 1900. Mr. and Mrs. Dunken farmed the Reeve farm for 39 years. In February, 1940 they left Nelson and entered the Soldiers Home at Grand Island. He was a member of the Chas. E. Norris Camp at Grand Island. He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife and six children, two brothers, Arthur and Wm. Dunken of Nelson, two sisters, Mrs. Grace Dircks, Camp Verde, Ariz., Mrs. Elizabeth Harritt, Hastings. There are 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, besides a host of friends. His father, mother, four brothers and one sister have preceded him in death. The funeral services were held in the Nelson Methodist church Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Clarence V. Powell in charge, assisted by Mrs. Powell. Music was furnished by Mrs. Bertha Portwood, Mrs. Pearl Clem, J.E. Portwood and Jas. F. Murphy. Mrs. Murphy presided at the piano. The pallbearers were: Irvin McCutchan, Con Whiteley, Ray Sigman, Chester Norwood, Frank Linville, Charlie Chamberlain. The American Legion Post 187 conducted military honors at the grave. -------------- Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. Clifford Ferebee, Haliday, North Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Geiger, Guide Rock, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Dunken and daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Thorpe of Corbett, Oregon; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gibson and son of Watsonville, California.
