Read More	James McKillip, 81, of Murdo, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at St. Mary's Healthcare in Pierre. A memorial celebration will take place at 10:00am, Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Murdo James Irwin McKillip was born May 21, 1928, Rapid City, South Dakota. His early years were spent in the Moenville area, while he graduated 9th grade from the Belvidere School. He worked for area ranchers until he enlisted in the Army in the early 50's and spent 13 months in active battle in Korea. After his military service, he worked for an electrician in the Midland area. He married Grace Sampson on February 6, 1956 at the Open Bible Church in Midland, SD. To this union two boy's were born, Jim Alan and Douglas Todd. Jim farmed south of Midland until moving to Murdo, SD in the early 60's where he owned the John Deere Business and later the Texaco Station. In 1973 he went to work for the State of South Dakota as a mechanic and became the shop foreman. He retired in 1994. During this time he also owned and operated the Murdo Sanitation Service that was started with an old oil burning pickup. He built the service up over the years to include service to the Belvidere and Midland areas. After retirement he worked for the Pioneer Auto Museum and Amoco. After selling the Sanitation Service he was employed with the Murdo City as the landfill attendant until late September of 2009. Jim was a member of the Okaton Evangelical Free Church and served on the Board as Secretary. He was a member of the Pierre Gideon's Kamp since the mid ‘90's. Jim was an active member of the Murdo Lion's Club since March 1, 1964. He served as president in 1978 and 1979 and again in 1995 and 1996. He also served on the Board of Directors in various positions. He was on the Murdo City Council from January 4, 1971 to May 2, 1977, was a volunteer fireman for the Murdo Fire Department since the early 60's, belonged to the VFW and American Legion and was a past member of the Magic City Mason's. A special tribute is extended to the fellowship of Alcoholic's Anonymous. Jim found Hope in the fellowship in the early 60's and remained active in the program until his death. Jim had fallen in late September and was released from the hospital in mid-October and was able to remain at home with the help of Michael Cody and Linda Michalek. He was blessed with their encouragement and positive attitude. He leaves to mourn his wife Grace, son Douglas and Amanda McKillip, their children Michael and Jennifer, Pierre, and Roger McKillip serving in Afganastan; Daughter-in-law Kathy McKillip, Pierre, granddaughters Erin, Omaha, NE and Heather, Aberdeen; sisters, Marion Currington, Rapid City, Arleta McKillip, Eugene, OR; brother, Terry (Mary) McKillip, Moorecroft, WY, and John, Gillette, WY. He was preceded in death by his son Jim Alan, his parents, a brother Danny McKillip and a sister Darlene Dillon. Jim was an enthusiastic race car builder, basketball fan and antique collector. He loved fishing and hunting with the kids and grandkids. A lot of fun memories were recalled by the family at the private Burial Service the family held on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 2 pm. Pastor Gary McCubbin led the service at Feigum Funeral Home, Pierre. SD. Full military honors were conducted by VFW honor guard at the gravesite at the Riverside Cemetery in Pierre.
