Description	:	James Eugene Staley, 84, of Du Bois, Nebraska passed away at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 25, 2012. He was born at Glen Elder, Kansas on January 7, 1928 to Henry and Beulah (Luckey) Staley. James worked numerous farms from the time he was in the 8th grade until he enlisted in the Navy. James married Esther M. Sowle on November 4, 1951. They... Read More	James Eugene Staley, 84, of Du Bois, Nebraska passed away at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 25, 2012. He was born at Glen Elder, Kansas on January 7, 1928 to Henry and Beulah (Luckey) Staley. James worked numerous farms from the time he was in the 8th grade until he enlisted in the Navy. He was on the USS Ingraham DD 694 during the atomic bomb testing at the Bikini Islands. When he returned from the Navy, he went back and finished high school at Glen Elder, Kansas. James married Esther M. Sowle on November 4, 1951. They moved to Bern, Kansas and then in 1957 James got a job with Pawnee County as a road grader so they moved to Du Bois at the time. During this time, he also farmed the Stephen Sowle farm and worked as a volunteer firefighter for the city of Du Bois. He retired from the county in 1997. James was a member of the American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars, and an elder at the Church of Christ in Table Rock, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, parents Henry and Beulah Staley, brothers, Robert, Richard, and Ralph; and sisters, Florence McMillan, Ruth Mishler, Lila Bunch and Betty Eakin. James is survived his brother Harold of Beloit, KS, and sister Judy Mallory of Jewel, KS, children, Stephen (Geraldine) Staley of Centralia, KS, David (Mickey) Staley of Yuma, AZ, Wilma (Mike) Piazza of Centralia, KS, and Rachel Staley of Beatrice, NE, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Funeral services 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Table Rock Church of Christ, Table Rock, Nebraska. Officiating Reverend Marvin Jamison. Visitation Friday, January 27, 2012 from Noon to 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m at Wherry Mortuary 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Interment at the Du Bois Cemetery, Du Bois, Nebraska.
