Obituary transcription also entered on October 28, 2017. ----------------------- Fairfield Daily Ledger Saturday August 1, 1942 Pg. 1 Col. 4 JAMES KEARNS, WELL KNOWN IN FAIRFIELD, DIES Had been salesman for Burlington firm for 39 consecutive years James F. Kearns, well known Fairfield citizen and traveling salesman, died at his home, 206 West Adams St., Friday evening at 7:30 (sic. this site was razed in 1995 and since 1996 has been the location of the Fairfield Public Library). He had been in failing health since about January 2, 1941, and seriously ill for the past three months. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian church in charge of Dr. Gilbert Vorhies. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery. The body will be taken to the church from the Hoskins funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Kearns was born in Pennsylvania on December 8, 1869. He married Ethel Corser of Cherryville, Kansas, July 25, 1894. He had been a salesman for the John Blaul and Sons Company of Burlington for 39 consecutive years. He had made his home in Fairfield since 1913, and had been a member of the Presbyterian church since childhood. He is survived by his wife, one son Edwin, of Kansas City, Mo., and one daughter, Mrs. Harold O. Davis of Sanborn, Iowa; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Four sisters also survive. They are Mrs. Margaret Goddy (sic. spelling ??), Clairemont, Oklahoma; Mrs. Clifford Brown, Ft. Madison; Mrs. Beulah King, Burlington and Mrs. Mary Mendenhall, also of Burlington.
