STERLING DIES; HEART ATTACK FATAL TO PROMINENT BUSINESS MAN Died Suddenly At Home Here Wednesday Night Extensively Engaged In Packing Industry James H. Sterling, prominent Crisfield business man, died suddenly at his home on Central Main Street at 3 o'clock last Thursday morning as the result of a fatal heart attack which he suffered earlier in the night. His death, which came without warning, was entirely unexpected and came as a great shock to the public. Apparently in splendid physical condition, Mr. Sterling suffered a severe shock about 10 days ago when he fell overboard and narrowly escaped drowning while stepping from the dock to a vessel on which he was preparing to take a trip. Although he suffered no noticeable effects from the experience, it is now believed that the shock was too much of a strain on his heart and terminated in the fatal heart attack last Wednesday night. He had been at his place of business, as usual, all day Wednesday but complained of not feeling so well as he went to his home Wednesday evening. A physician was called and advised him that his nervous system was impaired and necessitated a complete rest. Before dawn the following morning, however, he was stricken and passed away before medical assistance could be secured. Mr. Sterling was 59 years of age and had been for many years a prominent figure in the business life of Crisfield and Somerset county. He was engaged extensively in the oyster and seafood packing business, as well as in the packing and canning of fruit and vegetables in association with Wallace M. Quinn. A prominent member of the Masonic order and of Asbury Council Jr. O. U. A. M., Mr. Sterling was also affiliated with Immanuel M. E. Church and took an active interest in all public affairs. He was a gentleman of widespread acquaintance and broad business contact. The deceased was a son of the late Noah C. Sterling, and is survived by a widow, Mrs. Margaret Dennis Sterling, daughter of the late Senator L. E. P. Dennis of this city. He is also survived by two brothers—Messrs. Algie S. and William C. Sterling of Lawsonia, and one sister Mrs. Woodland Tull, of Hampton, Va. Funeral services will be held from the late home this (Saturday) afternoon at 4 o'clock, with Rev. John J. Bunting officiating. Chesapeake Lodge No. 147 A. F. & A. M. will conduct the Masonic burial services.
