Sterling Passed Away Tuesday Morning Funeral Services Held Yesterday One of Somerset county's most prominent and esteemed citizens, William C. Sterling, passed away at his home in the Lawsonia section, after having been in declining health for several years, at shortly before six o'clock Tuesday morning. Mr. Sterling, who was the son of the late Noah C. Sterling and Mary Anne Sterling, both from prominent suburban families who were actively identified with the early life and growth of the county, was seventy-three years of age at his passing. He was the last surviving member of the family on his father's side and had been a life time resident of the Lawsonia section. From his youth, until about a year ago when ill health forced him to give up such an active life, he had followed the water, both as a waterman and an oyster planter. All who knew him, knew of his great industriousness, his honesty and his integrity as well as his innumerable other sterling traits of character which further served to endear him to all with whom he came in contact. As a father and a husband he had no peer. He was a true Christian, a fact that was exemplified in his everyday life, and he was a sincere friend and neighbor. That he had a host of warm friends goes without saying, as his life and character were such that people always flocked to him for comfort when they were saddened or when they found their burden too much to share alone, and he was ever willing to comfort and share the burdens of his fellow man. The large attendance at his funeral and the many floral designs, tributes to the esteem in which he was held by all, further attested to the fact that he was loved by all who knew him. Services were held, yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Asbury Methodist Church with Rev. J. Yancey Fincher, pastor of the Baptist Temple, officiating. Interment was in Sunnyridge Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Sterling is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ella Moore Sterling, four daughters, Mrs. Ray A. Parks, and Mrs. Lucy Sterling, of Crisfield, Mrs. L. E. Powell, of Wilmington, Del., and Mrs. George N. Wilson, of Mexico City; and two sons, W. Kirk Sterling and Harvey Sterling, both of this city.
