Description | : | He appears on the 1850 and 1860 census reports, Spartanburg County, SC. According to some Confederate records he enlisted at Spartanburg in November, 1861, in Company C, Infantry Regiment, Holcombe's legion, thereby becoming a brother-in-arms with his older brother, John B. Tinsley. Confederate records show that he deserted to the enemy at Petersburg on December 31, 1864 (or January 1, 1865). After taking the Oath of Amnesty, he was, apparently, sent to City Point, Virginia, then to Washington, then to Philadelphia. He lived with his younger brother Milton for a time.
