Description	:	He appears on the 1850 and 1860 census reports, Spartanburg County, SC. According to some Confederate records he enlisted at Spartanburg in November, 1861, in Company C, Infantry Regiment, Holcombe's legion, thereby becoming a brother-in-arms with his older brother, John B. Tinsley. Confederate records show that he deserted to the enemy at Petersburg on December 31, 1864 (or January 1, 1865). After taking the Oath of Amnesty, he was, apparently, sent to City Point, Virginia, then to Washington, then to Philadelphia. He lived with his younger brother Milton for a time. He was baptized at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church (predecessor of Inman First Baptist Church) on September 23, 1877. He is possibly the same as the James K. Tinsley living at 20 Green Street in the 1896-1897 Spartanburg City Directory. The Will of his brother Milton (dated August 5, 1920) provided a fund for James' burial expenses, so his death must have been after this date, but the exact date has not been learned. His place of burial has not been learned, and no information has been developed concerning any descendants.
