Polk Eye, well-known aged resident of the community, died Friday evening, April 4, at four-thirty o’clock at his home on Franklin road (Monterey). Death was due to the infirmities of age, he having been eighty-eight years, three months and twenty-nine days of age at the time of his death. During the years he had been employed in a number of occupations — stone mason, carpenter, chair-maker, and other kindred trades. Logan, W.Va. and Chas A. Eye, Monterey: and three daughters, Mrs. Ed Hiner, Mrs. Lloyd Rexrode, and Mia Arnie Eye, all of the community, 22 grand children, 26 great grand children. Pallbearers Bernie Hiner, Will Hiner, Layman Chestnut, Howard Hiner, Ira Rexrode, Walter Finer, John Hiner. Honorary, A.J. White, J.A. Eagle, J. Ed Arbogast, J.H. Shumate, R.L. Gum. Abraham Eckard, Ira Gutshall, A.P. Gum, Luther Varner. Lloyd Sullenberger. For many years he had been an active member of the Methodist church, with membership at the Asbury church, and funeral services were held from this church on Sunday evening, conducted by his pastor, the Rev. D.G. Trent. Interment was in the family burying grounds nearby. Son of Henry Eye (1821-1889) and Mary Ann Peninger 1820-?) Grandson of John Eye 1798-1863 And Elizabeth Moyers 1801-1860. Married to Mary Catherine Simmons, the father of 8 children (Charles Adam 1877, William Lafayette 1880, David Wickline 1885, Infant 1888, Mary Bessie 1888, Annie Rebecca 1891, Arnie Alice 1898, James Clark and Ira Barnes.)
