When a small child, he, with his parents, moved to Box Butte county, Nebraska. In the spring of 1902 they moved to Nance county where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Vesta Jackson on December 6th, 1915. To this union were born seven sons, Raymond, Arnold, Jack, Robert S 1/c in the Navy, (who was unable to attend), Eugene, Leo and Ronald, and two daughters, Mary (Mrs. Harold Baustert) and Fern at home. In 1935 Mr. Mahoney and family moved to Boone county where they have since resided. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and nine children and two grandsons; two brothers, Mike and Martin Mahoney of St. Edward; and three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Quigley, of Kit Carson, Colo., Mrs. B. Farlee of Grand Island, Nebr., and Mrs. John Klinge of Fullerton, and many other relatives and friends. James had been in failing health for some time and was a very patient sufferer. He was a kind, loving father and will be greatly missed in his home and community. Funeral services were held at the St. Edward Catholic church on Monday morning with Rev. James Brady officiating. Pall bearers were Frank Campain, John Drog, Felix Zurovski, Joe Baustert, Frank and Carl Zipf. Burial was made in the Evergreen cemetery.
