Married Mary Collins on February 4, 1883 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Vail, Iowa. ````````````` Nance County Journal (Fullerton, Nebr.), May 11, 1939, p. 8, col. 5 Obituary - Martin Mahoney Martin Mahoney was born in Ohio May 5, 1854, and departed this life on May 6, 1939, at the age of 85 years and one day. He was the son of Cornelus and Bridget Mahoney. When he was a small child, his parents moved to Galena, Ill., where his father was engaged in steamboating. When a young man he moved to Vail, Iowa where he purchased a farm and was united in marriage to Mary Collins. To this union were born eight children, two of whom, John and Agnes preceded him in death. He is survived by three sons, Martin and Micheal of Fullerton and James of St. Edward and three daughters, Mrs. Bridget Farlee of Wolbach, Mrs. Ellen Quigley of Kit Carson, Colo., and Mrs. John Klinge of Fullerton. His wife preceded him in death June 1904. Mr. Mahoney homesteaded in Box Butte County in 1887 living there 14 years. He moved to Granada, Colo., residing there for one year and moving to Nance County in 1902 where he has since resided. He was laid to rest beside his wife Mary and daughter Agnes in the Fullerton cemetery. It was said of him: "He was a man of true worth and always reliable in his work and upright in his life. He had a wide circle of acquaintances and friends and all liked him for his genial good nature and companionship and his death is widely regreted. Not in death itself came the sting for that was the end of great suffering. The great sorrow is that death had to come but he had performed his duties of life well and was ready for the end". He leaves to mourn his six children, 21 grandchildren, two brothers, C. H. Mahoney of Des Moines, Iowa, and John Mahoney of Cedar Rapids. One sister and two brothers are buried in Iowa and two brothers are at rest in Los Angeles, Calif. `````````` p. 10, col. 3 Martin Mahoney, Sr. Martin Mahoney, Sr., 85, for many years a resident of Nance county, died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Klinge, after a long illness. He had made his home in this county since 1902, moving here from Granada, Colo. He is survived by three sons Micheal of Fullerton, Martin, Jr., of Wolbach and James of St. Edward; three daughters, Mrs. John Klinge of Fullerton, Mrs. Bridget Farlee of Wolbach and Mrs. George Quigley of Kit Carson, Colorado; two brothers, John Mahoney of Cedar Rapids and C. H. Mahoney of Des Moines, Iowa and 21 grandchildren. His wife and two children preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Peters Catholic church, with Fr. Frank Kubiszewski officiating. Six grandsons, Martin Klinge of Fullerton, Arnold and John Mahoney of St. Edward and Leo, Francis and Paul Farlee of Wolbach served as pall bearers. Interment was made in the parish cemetery.
