He was born June 21, 1926 to the late James Martin and Mary Ellen Stewart Martin. He was a mechanic with Roadway Express and a member of Troutdale Baptist Church in Troutdale, Va. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Plummer Martin in 1998 and eleven brothers and sisters. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Plummer Martin in 1998 and eleven brothers and sisters. Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Stewart of North Wilkesboro; two sons, Tommy Martin of Walnut Cove and Eugene Martin of Galax, Va.; seven grandchildren, Misti Martin, Ashley Martin, Brian Martin, Brittany Martin, Marty Hill, Karen Simmons, and Joshua Martin; one great-grandchild, Cody Lee Simmons; one sister-in-law, Hope C. Martin of Walnut Cove; and a special nephew, Grady Throckmorton of Walnut Cove. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 1999 at Troutdale Baptist Church, Troutdale, Va. Burial will be at Corinth Cemetery in Rugby, Va. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.
