Jim was born on January 14, 1940 to Bernard C. Miller and Berneda C. (Nick) Miller. He married Marilyn S. (Bentz) Miller on March 3, 1962. He is survived by his wife; his children: Brenda Miller of Centerville, Angie (Rodney) Kirkpatrick of Fostoria, Pam Assenheimer of Tiffin, Brian (Sandy) Miller of Lancaster, Dennis (Jody) Miller of Catawaba Island, Matthew (Sheri) Miller of Palm Bay, FL , and Amy (Matt) Wright of Brook Park; his grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Adam, Sadie, Logan, Kaitlynn, Elaine, Anthony, Amanda, Trevor, Eliza, Barry, Alyssa, Ryan, Kara, Crystal, Kayla, Darrin, Carl, Jaremy, Tori, Renee, Colton, Grady, and Vince; his great-grandchildren: Landon, Wynter, Archer, Callaway, Trenton, Beckett, Olivia, Lincoln, Remington, and Bradley; his brother, John (Roy Rianharet) Miller of Sarasota, FL; his sister, Elizabeth “Liz” (Al) Leibengood of Fostoria; his sisters-in-law, Joyce McKinney, Dorothy (John) Mabe, and Helen Bentz; his brother-in-law, Mike (Mary) Bentz; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Charles Bentz, Robert Bentz, and Robert McKinney; and step-grandson, Nathan Williamson. Jim was a very proud Veteran who served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, 55 Plus Club, Fostoria Knights of Columbus and the New Riegel Moose Lodge and American Legion. He retired from Union Carbide after many years of riding his bike to work through rain, sleet, and snow. After retirement, he enjoyed his part time job as an usher at both the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians games. Jimmy loved spending time and playing cards with his family and friends, watching sports (especially the Indians), hanging out at the Senior Center, “shuffling” around town at the various stores and establishments. He was an avid golfer, bowler, card player, and lottery enthusiast. He had a special way of making everyone in the family feel as though they were the “favorite.” Large gatherings of family and friends were regular occasions at the house on Columbus Avenue and then “the Double Wide”; at the various local campgrounds frequented over the years; and the recent family vacations to southern Ohio, Myrtle Beach, and Virginia Beach where 50 to 80 family members from across the country would grab their matching shirts and join in the fun. Jim was loved by all who knew him and he will be dearly missed. Visitation for Jim will be held on Sunday, October 11 at Hoening & Son Funeral Home 133 W. Tiffin Street, Fostoria, OH 44830 from 2-5 pm, where a Wake service will be held at 4:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, October 12 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Wendelin Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Wendelin Cemetery with military honors provided by the New Riegel American Legion. Due to current health conditions surrounding COVID-19, social distancing and masks will be required to attend the visitation and services in accordance with the state of Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jim’s name may be made to American Kidney Foundation Northwest Ohio or Hancock Area Transportation Service (HATS). The family would like to thank everyone who reached out with prayers, love, and support since Jim’s stroke in August, especially during the last 10 days when he was able to be home enjoying every day. His face would light up with every visitor, phone call, and face time as he would greet them with “Oh, Hi” and “I am so happy.” Special thanks to the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care Creighton Dialysis Center and Heartland Hospice for their incredible care and compassion.
