OBITUARY: Cumberland Times News (Cumberland, Maryland), Wed, 14 Jul 2004 - Page 3B McHENRY -- James Roy Friend, 78, of 6101 Sang Run Road, McHenry, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Garrett Memorial Hospital. Born March 14, 1926, in Hoyes, he was the son the late Roy Victor and Grace Alice (DeWitt) Friend. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Everett, Carlton, and Charles Friend; and one sister, Ruby DeWitt. Mr. Friend was a member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren and was a retired heavy equipment operator and foreman for the Garrett County Roads Dept. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen (Savage) Friend; two sons, James Alan Friend, Accident, and Danny Ray Friend, McHenry; two daughters, Rhonda Sue Bond, Milford, Del., and Barbara Ellen Friend, Forrest Hill; six grandchildren, Bryan and Michael Nally, Dawn Friend, Kelly Bender, Amanda Friend and Samantha Nucci; two step grandchildren, Trevor and Lauren and two great-grandsons, Isaac and Jordan Bender. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 26722 Garrett Highway, Accident, (McHenry) on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Grove Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Phillip Matthews officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Sang Run Cemetery. (Transcribed by Ronn E. Friend, First Cousin.
