However, data of their daughter, Dora Nancy Shandy, shows he married Lavisa Isadora Brothwell, January 9, 1881--their marriage record indicates the year is in fact 1881. Also, if interested: James Thomas Shandy came with his parents from Atchison County, Missouri, to Wakefield, Clay Co., Kansas, sometime after 1863 and before 1880. Tradition says that as a young man he brought two horses to Kansas and traded one for 80 acres of land. He could have traded a little Indian mare for another 80 acres, but he did not want to part with his pony. About a year later he paid $1,400 for that other 80 acres. His obituary comments that he was "...honest, upright, a friend to the poor and to those in need, a kind, loving father, and devoted husband." Thank you [email protected]
