Description	:	In the death of J.W. Lamb which occurred last Thursday afternoon, this community lost one of its old and familiarly known citizens. He had a wide acquaintance, gathered through his association with the work at the Nebraska state fair and various county fairs of the State. Lamb which occurred last Thursday afternoon, this community lost one of its old and familiarly known citizens. He had a wide acquaintance, gathered through his association with the work at the Nebraska state fair and various county fairs of the State. "Lamb" as he was known to the patrons of these institutions, was a great lover of horse flesh and bred many a find driver. It was by reason of this that he was selected to serve as speed secretary for many years at our state fair and also at the Nuckolls County fair, and was called to many race meetings to judge the contest. His wide acquaintance drew the largest list of entries during his administration of the department, that were ever made both here and at Lincoln in the harness races. James W. Lamb was born in Georgetown, Ohio, April 21, 1856, and died at his home in Nelson, Nebraska, Thursday, October 18, 1934. He was the eldest of a family of six, his parents being Sylvanus and Rachel Lamb. Of this family only two remain: Mrs. A.J. Murphy of Geneva, and Lin Lamb of Denver. He came with his parents to Wyanet, Illinois, in 1864, and in 1882 they moved to Davenport, Nebraska. Here on May 15, 1885, he was united in marriage to Ora A. Bradley. After a few years' residence at Davenport, Shickley, and on a farm near Shickley, they came to Nelson and brought the place known as the S.A. Searle home and here their family grew to manhood and womanhood. Mr. Lamb leaves to cherish his memory these children: Mrs. Dollie Box, Storm Lake, Iowa; Bert Lamb, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; Cliff Lamb, Nelson; Harry Lamb, Calloway; Mrs. Pauline Bottenfield, Albion; and Max Lamb, Nelson. Inez, a daughter, died when a little girl, and Helen on December 3, 1927. Mrs. Lamb died December 26, 1930. Since his wife's passing, Mr. Lamb has kept up the home, except for short lapses when he would be visiting his daughter Pauline, or in Storm Lake with Mrs. Box. The out of town guests here to attend the funeral of J.W. Lamb on last Sunday, were: Elisha White, Boise, Idaho; June White and wife, Lester Stickle, Shickley; Frank Murphy and wife, John Miller and wife, Mrs. A.J. Murphy, Geneva; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kessler, Sutton; Mrs. Ida Stickle, Holstein; Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Elmore, Mrs. W.L. Minor, Vic Scherzinger, Lincoln; Miss Ethel Bradley, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Jennings, Davenport; Mr. and Mrs. George Galley, Mrs. Ethel Howell, Palmer; Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Wehrman, Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bottenfield, Kearney. The funeral service was conducted at the family home Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, where a large concourse of friends gathered to pay their tribute of respect to the deceased. A quartet composed of E.E. Hedgcock, Mrs. W.L. Portwood, Mrs. Ross Clem and J.E. Portwood sang "Have Thine Own Way," and Mrs. Portwood and Mrs. Clem sang "Abide With Me," Mrs. H.H. Hite accompanying. The pallbearers were F.E. Bottenfield, Emil Klawitter, C.R. Imler, J.E. Portwood, H.H. Hite and Andred Henry. Interment was at Nelson. Rev. V.R.
