KEEN James William Keen was born in Illinois, August 20, 1850 and died near Norwood, Iowa, August 3, 1932, aged 81 years, 11 months and 14 days. He came to Iowa with his parents when nine years old, spending the first winter near Newbern, moving to the Norwood locality the following spring and lived there continuously since that time, living on the farm where he died for 46 years. He was married to Mary Ellen Ferguson, Jan. 5, 1873. To them were born thirteen children, five of whom died in infancy and Howard O., who died after reaching maturity at the age of 21. Those now living are Walter D., Archie L., Ernest B., Maud M., Viva V. Kniveton, Cecil C., and Anna Grace Marker. His companion preceded him in death June 11, 1929. He was an honored member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He was very firm in his stand for what he believed was right. He leaves, besides his children, one brother, H. E. Keen, one sister, Martha Ellen Keen, eighteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services, conducted by Elder James Robinson, were held Saturday, August 6th, in the U. B. church near Norwood, with burial in the Fletcher cemetery. The Lacona quartette furnished the music.
