Description	:	Ref: James Wright Thompson was born 2 Feb. 1850, on a farm near New Brighton, Beaver Co., PA. At thirteen years of age he joined the Baptist Church of which he was a staunch member the rest of his life. In 1865 he came to Iowa, where he lived with his parents on a farm near Grove Creek. He was married to Miss Susan Maria Corll of Mercer Co., PA, on 7 Nov. 1872. He was married to Miss Susan Maria Corll of Mercer Co., PA, on 7 Nov. 1872. To this union four children were born -- three sons, Charles M., with whom he spent the last years of his life on the old home farm; James C. and Clyde, who live near by; and one daughter, Lizzie, who passed away at the age of fourteen. Mr. Thompson and family moved to Hazel Green Twp., Delaware Co., IA, in 1878. Here he lived until his death on Sunday morning, 18 Feb. 1923. He was a very active man up to his short illness of influenza, which lasted but a few days, during which time he was cared for in the home of his son, Clyde. All of his children were at his bedside, doing all that loving hands could do for him in his last hours. Being deprived of his hearing for the last thirty-five years he did not often attend religious services, but his every day words and actions showed that he remained loyal to his boyhood vows of allegiance to Christ and the Church. Added loneliness hovered over him also after his wife's death just eleven months to his departure. He leaves to mourn his absence his immediate family, one brother Isaiah, and one sister, Mrs. H. A. Richardson, both of Marcus, IA, one half-brother, Cecil H. whose whereabouts is unknown, and seven grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Buck Creek Church, where a very comforting sermon was preached by the pastor, Rev. O. J. Felter, from the text, "Let not your heart be troubled. Ye believe in God, believe also in Me." Interment was made in the local cemetery beside his wife and daughter.
