He had arisen in the night to get a drink of water and his wife found him moments later dead. James Thompson was born west of Hopkinton, August 24, 1877, son of Wright and Susan Maria Corll Thompson. He spent his early life and received his education in the Buck Creek vicinity. He also attended Lenox College and was a member of the famous Lenox football team. He married Lena Arduser, October 1906. They were the parents of five sons and one daughter, all of whom survive. They retired from farm life in 1943 and moved to Monticello. They would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in October. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Rev. Wollgram officiated. He leaves to mourn his wife, five sons, Eugene and Maurice of Hopkinton, Calvin, Cedar Rapids, Clarence, Coggon, and Lloyd of Lakeland, Florida and one daughter, Ruth, Mrs. Roger Baldwin of Clarence, Iowa, fourteen grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one brother, Clyde of Manchester. Thompson, 83, were held Friday, January 13, at the Goettsch Funeral Homes, Monticello, with burial at Oakwood. Rev. Dale Wollgram officiated at the services. Mr. Thompson died early Wednesday, Jan. 11 from a sudden heart attack. James C. Thompson was born August 24, 1877, Delaware Co., Iowa, the son of James Wright & Susan Corel Thompson. He attended the rural schools of that area and later Leno College in Hopkinton. He was married to Lena Arduser in Monticello, Oct. 1905. The couple farmed in Delaware Co. before their retirement when they moved to Monticello in 1942. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lena Thompson; six children, Clarence of Coggon; Gene and Maurice, both of Hopkinton; Lloyd of Lakeland, FL; Ruth, Mrs. Roger Baldwin of Clarence; Calvin of Cedar Rapids; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Clyde, of Manchester. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. He was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church. Casket bearers included Maynard Thompson, Ralph Thompson, Richard Thompson, Robert Thompson, Dorrance Thompson and Lynn Baldwin.
