| Description | : | Rita was the first Blackfeet Indian woman to attend Stanford University. She left for school on Oct. 8, 1937. After graduating from Stanford, she met and married Arturo Santana. She and Arturo lived in Puerto Rico as he was a professor at the University of Puerto Rico. Rita and Art had one child Victoria Adele Santana. The couple later divorced and Rita moved back to Montana to live and retire from the Cut Bank Welfare Office. Art remarried and passed away in 2006 in Austin, Texas. Rita was a huge fan of history and the arts. |
