| Description | : | Janet Stewart "Nettie" McLaren, second daughter of David McLaren and Margaret McLaren, was born March 20, 1875. When her mother died of tuberculosis in 1898 Nettie and her older sister, Mary, became the "ladies" of the household, caring for their younger siblings – in particular the twin boys born in 1886. Nettie remained single all her life, joking that "there were no more McLaren cousins to marry." (Her parents were first cousins and there had been several cousin marriages in the immediate family.) |
