Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Union Creek Lutheran church of rural Akron. The Rev. Benard Nelson officiated. Soloist was Bob Floss, who sang "To God Be The Glory", accompanied by Ruth Stoutenberg, organist. Congregational hymns were "When Peace Like A River" and "How Great Thou Art". Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Union Creek Lutheran church of rural Akron. The Rev. Benard Nelson officiated. Burial was in the Union Creek cemetery under direction of the Schroeder funeral home in Akron. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Pallbearers were Dennis Hultgren, Lloyd Miller, Gary Hillrichs, Kenneth Hillrichs, Eldon Seely, Ray Ericson, Roger Frerichs and Charles Reich. Mr. Robertson was born July 16, 1919, to John and Ruth Dean Robertson at Le Mars. He married Opal Sommervold June 8, 1949, at Akron. They farmed in the Akron area for 15 years, operated a laundromat in Marcus from 1964 to 1974. He was a mechanic for International and John Deere from 1974 until retiring in 1983. Jay was a World War II veteran and served with Company K, 133rd Infantry from 1941 to 1945 serving in Italy, North Africa and the Middle East. He was awarded two bronze stars for the Tunisian, Italian campaigns in 1943 and 1944 and the Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster in May 1943. He was a member of Hoschler American Legion post 186, served as post commander in 1982-83, and held other offices in the post. He was a member of Union Creek Lutheran church. He is survived by his wife, Opal; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (JoEllen) Puttmann of Sioux City and Miss Beth Robertson at home; two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Darlene) Lucken of Akron and Miss Marjorie Robertson of San Francisco, Calif., and one brother, Calvin of Akron.
